The Confederation of Africa football (CAF) toughened its sanctions against Avlessi Tata de Mass, former Togo Football Association President, and referee Attivi Atevi Cessi to life ban for corruption after being found guilty of bribery.

The CAF appeal committee rejected their appeal, on Tuesday, and decided to ban them for life from participating to all football related activities and access to any football stadium, after an initial eight-year sanction handed last July.

The former president of the Togo Football Association bribed referee Pa Abdou Saar of Gambia, through fourth official Cessi ahead of an African Under-17 qualifier between Togo and Tunisia in March. Togo lost the match 3-0 but still qualified for the U-17 World Cup.

Saar has been already suspended for life and now Tata and Cessi, who acted as the go-between for the bribe, see the same fate.
