AC Milan striker Alberto Gilardino said his main target is to finish atop the Serie A leading scorers list, Football Italia magazine reported on Saturday.

"It is only normal that goals are very important for a striker, therefore it is normal to think about winning the strikers’ crown," Gilardino said.

The Italian international was the runners-up for the last two seasons behind Andriy Shevchenko and Cristiano Lucarelli who won the award in 2004 and 2005 respectively.

After an unimpressive start at the San Siro, Gilardino managed to find his top form after scoring 11 goals, four goals behind Juventus striker David Trezeguet and five short of Fiorentina's Luca Toni.

The 23-year-old striker netted twice against Livorno earlier this week in the last league clash in 2005.

"It was vital to end the year like that for me and the team. Now we must start the new one in the right way," he said.
