Congo edged closer to the African Nations Cup second round after a 0-0 draw against Angola in their Group B match on Wednesday.
Striker Tresor Mputu was sent-off in the 19th minute for kicking Angola defender Kali.
“It’s so great that we produced such a display while playing with only ten men, we even came close to grabbing the win,” LeRoy told a press conference after the game.
“We have a better chance of qualifying than Togo and Angola,” said a confident LeRoy.
Nevertheless, the Frenchman refused to speculate who would be his quarter-final opponent.
“I don’t want to get carried away because we didn’t qualify yet. I really don’t want to worry about that for the time being,” the Frenchman said.
When asked about his team’s prospects in the next game against favorites Cameroon LeRoy said: It will be a tough game, but we’ll do our best.”
Angola coach Luis Oliveira Goncalves said that his side was unlucky to be held to a draw given the several chances to score.
Goncalves conceded that Angola’s chances of reaching the second became very slim after managing only one point from their first two matches.
