Two Mauritanian clubs withdrew from the African Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup, one day ahead of their opening matches.

ASC Ahmedi withdrew from the African Champions League ahead of their home match against Moroccan giants Raja Casablanca on Sunday.

ASC Entente also quit the Confederations Cup ahead of their match against Algerian club ASO Chlef that was scheduled to take place on Sunday.

Both clubs will likely face two-year bans from participating in continental club competition alongside agreed upon fines.

Neither club gave any reasons for their surprise withdrawal, but it is anticipated that financial constraints were behind the move.

Raja Casablanca will now advance to the African Champions League round-two, while ASO Chlef will progress into the Confederations Cup second-round, following the Mauritanian clubs’ withdrawal.
