Paolo Maldini will not be able to captain AC Milan against Udinese on Sunday, 23 years after he first wore the Red and Black shirt.

The Italian legend will miss the Friuli visit with flu, but the 39-year-old revealed that he is still enjoying football, just as he used to do on his Milan debut back in 1985.

"I used to have fun back then and I still have fun now. At sixteen years of age I was surely less acclimatized," he said in an interview with the club's official site.

Maldini paid tribute to Nils Liedholm, who was the first to give the prolific full-back a chance to represent the Rossoneri.

"I’m very tied to Liedholm because he made me debut when I was very young and he taught me a lot both from the professional life and the human life," he said.

Maldini, who played in as many as eight UEFA Champions League finals, is still eager to lead the Milanello to another final this year in Moscow.

"With Milan I had everything, also the brace, a goal in a final of the Champions League. What I still miss? The Moscow game," he added.
