Goncalves leaves Angola

Angola coach Luis Oliveira Goncalves has resigned as manager after four years in charge of the Palancas Negras, Angolan Football Federation FAF said.

It is believed that Goncalves' feeling of insecurity from FAF has prompted his decision, in addition to the team's critical situation in the 2010 World Cup qualifiers.

Angola have a slender hope of making it to the final stage of the African qualifiers as they lie second in Group 3, including Benin, Uganda and Niger.

Deputy coach Mabi de Almeida is set to take charge of the team in next week's decisive qualifier with Niger in Luanda.

Goncalves' most notable achievement with Angola was the shocking qualification to the 2006 World Cup in Germany.
