The Zambian Football Association could face FIFA sanctions after its president Kalusha Bwalya was suspended by the country's sports council.

Bwalya was suspended after the former Zambia star played part in the illegal transfer of Kabwe Warriors player Emmanuel Mayuka to Maccabe Tel Aviv in the Israeli league.

Warriors' officials claimed that the move was against their will and Bwalya, who refused to be subjected to a sports council hearing was suspended as a result.

FIFA regulations prevent any governmental interference in footballing matters, and on previous occasions Kuwait and Kenya had their Associations similarly suspended.

Zambia will face Egypt in an African World Cup qualifier in Cairo on March 29th.
