Angola's newly-appointed coach Manuel Jose believes the country is not yet qualified to win the African Cup of Nations.

Jose took over at Angola after resigning from his post as Ahli coach, one year before the expiry of his contract with the Red Devils.

His first task will be leading the Palancas Negras in next year's ACN on home soil.

"When I signed the contract, the Angolan Federation told me that my target should be winning the Nations Cup," the Portuguese tactician told BBC Sport.

"But it is a very high aim, we have to move step by step. My target will be leading Angola to a place in the quarter-finals."

Angola booked a last-eight berth in the 2008 ACN in Ghana before being eliminated at the hands of eventual winners Egypt.

It was the first time for them to progress beyond the group stage.

"I have six months to solve the problems of the team and prepare them for the tournament," Jose added.

"There are seven teams in the continent better than us, but we can still play good football in the ACN."
