Several hours after the FIFA Confederations Cup game, Egypt skipper Ahmed Hassan reported the theft of some wallets from his teammates' hotel rooms.

Later on, local newspaper Sunday World reported that the Egyptians spent the night with hookers at the hotel, suggesting that they have stolen the players' personal possessions before leaving.

However, Ayman Esawi, an Egyptian fan who checked into the same hotel where Egypt's contingent is hosted, assured that this claim is 'absolute rubbish'.

"After the game, everybody (players and fans) got back to the hotel, and the players filed complaints about missing money from their rooms shortly after their arrival," he told FilGoal.com.

"Ahmed Hassan asked his teammates to check their rooms and make sure nothing else was missing, and it turned out that five rooms were burgled.

"The rooms of Ahmed Eid, Mohamed Shawky, Ahmed Raouf, Mohamed Zidan and Mohamed Abou-Greisha were all broken into.

"What has been said about hired prostitutes is absolute rubbish; the hotel is heavily guarded by policemen, and only guests are allowed to get in."

The incident might once again raise a debate over South Africa's ability to host next year's World Cup.

The country's high crime rate has been the subject of concern since FIFA announced that the World Cup would take place in Africa for the first time in the tournament's history.
