Paul Le Guen has become Cameroon's new coach to replace veteran tactician Otto Pfister.

The French boss is expected to sign a six-month contract with the Indomitable Lions as they seek to revive a faltering World Cup qualifying campaign.

Le Guen, who takes over at Cameroon following the resignation of German coach Pfister in May, should be officially presented in the coming few days.

The 45-year-old, who was not offered a new contract by French outfit Paris Saint-Germain, will manage a national team for the first time in his coaching career.

He will have a mountain to climb if he is to help Cameroon, who missed out on the 2006 World Cup, reach the 2010 tournament.

The four-time African champions collected just one point from their first two games in Group A of the qualifiers.

The are five points behind leaders and surprise package Gabon, who look determined to cause a huge upset and qualify for the South Africa finals.
