Ahli coach Hossam Al-Badri said he would be delighted if Nigerian striker Stephen Worgu joined his side.

The 20-year-old is reportedly seeking to leave Sudanese side Al-Merreikh due to personal problems.

He was sentenced to flogging in November after being convicted of drinking alcohol.

"Worgu would be a valuable addition to our squad if we managed to sign him," Al-Badri told Al-Hayat TV late on Friday.

"He is better than all the African players we are monitoring these days. We are trying to sign him."

The Red Devils made an attempt to lure Worgu in 2008 when he was playing for Nigerian side Enyimba but he eventually opted to join Al-Merreikh.

Ahli's squad boasts one reliable striker in Egyptian international Emad Meteb, with close-season arrivals Francis Doe and Mohamed Fadl unable to make a notable impact.

Liberian Doe suffered from persistent injuries while Fadl, who joined after his contract with Ismaili expired, couldn't impress.

Out-of-favor duo Ahmed Belal and Osama Hosni might leave Ahli before the closure of the January transfer window.

The Cairo giants, who aim to win a sixth consecutive league title, entered the mid-season break on top of the table with a six-point lead over second-placed Petrojet.
