"I sat down with (Zamalek football director) Ibrahim Hassan and we reached an agreement over the details of a potential deal," Mekki told FilGoal.com.
The 29-year-old, who scored one Egyptian Premier League goal this season, is a key member of Hodoud's squad.
His dribbling skills down the left flank cause troubles for opponents but he may find it difficult to break into Zamalek's first team if he moves to the Cairo giants in the summer.
Zamalek's squad boasts Egyptian international left-back Mohamed Abdul-Shafi, who produced some impressive displays this season.
His deputy, Sabri Rahil, also put in assured performances in his few appearances under coach Hossam Hassan.
Mekki's wish is to join Zamalek but is yet to be given the all-clear by Hodoud, who are known for their stubbornness when it comes to transfers.
"I will hand Hodoud's board a transfer request after the end of the Egyptian Cup matches," he added.
"I'm very happy that Zamalek are interested in signing me. I'm eager to join them."
Zamalek, who are likely to finish runners up to league champions Ahli, announced that right-back Mohamed Abdullah, whom they released last summer, would be their first signing for the new season.
