Despite agreeing personal terms with the Premier League club, Jol decided to stay in Amsterdam following an intense battle between the two clubs over his services.

"Ajax let me know they didn't want me to go and I don't think I can leave at this time," Jol told Ajax's website.

"I came here last summer to be successful, build a good team and to have fun and those three things are what I am interested in achieving next season."

Fulham are still in search of a manager following the departure of Roy Hodgson to Liverpool earlier in July.
