Hassan Shehata has decided to end his reign as the manager of Egypt after the team’s 2012 Africa Cup of Nations disappointment, the FA said on Monday.
The Master agreed to terminate his contract by mutual consent following a meeting with FA chairman Samir Zaher.
The decision was made after Shehata failed to take Egypt to the 2012 Nations Cup for the first time in the history of the seven-time African champions.
The FA has yet to name potential candidates to replace the 61-year-old, who brings down the curtain on an impressive career with the Pharaohs on the continental stage.
He guided Egypt to three back-to-back Africa Cup of Nations titles in 2006, 2008 and 2010.
