Ahli have requested postponing the upcoming Champions League home clash against Orlando Pirates five days, in a bid to avoid playing during fasting once again, the club’s website said.

The fixture was scheduled for August 4 which means that Ahli, who were forced to face Zamalek during fasting in their group-stage opener in Hurghada, will have to endure the heat of the coastal city another time.

But moving the game to August 9 would allow the African champions to host the match at Gouna Stadium - which is not equipped with floodlights - after Ramadan.

"We are currently waiting for the CAF reply regarding our request to delay the game," football director Sayed Abdul-Hafiz told the club's website.

"We are trying to avoid playing while fasting again; the players were adversely affected against Zamalek.

"In case CAF turned down our request, we could be searching for another venue for the game as Aswan Stadium."

Ahli and Zamalek are being forced to play home games outside Cairo or Alexandria upon the orders of Egyptian authorities.

So difficult

In the same context, Ahli skipper Wael Gomaa stated that playing while fasting would be 'so difficult' stressing that the game should not be staged during daylight in Ramadan.

"It would be so difficult to play against Orlando while fasting again," the Egypt veteran said.

"Fasting affected our game against Zamalek, who started the match much better than us, but we were able to draw eventually."

Ahli’s arch-foes Zamalek will meet Congo's Leopards in the other fixture next month.
