Elmohamady, who impressed in the previous 1-1 draw at Swansea, produced another fine performance against Stoke but could not help his side overcome the Potters – who defeated Chelsea last week.

The Egyptian, however, had a chance to put his side in front but saw his header denied by the keeper Asmir Begovic.

Steve Bruce's men remain in 12th place on 19 points as they visit 16th-placed West Bromwich next weekend.
