Wael Gomaa has confirmed that he officially retired from football following several years as Egypt's top defender.
The 38-year-old, who said this year that he will quit at the end of the season, decided to pull the plug earlier after accepting an analyst role for the World Cup.
Ahli's website said that Gomaa made his decision following last week's Confederation Cup draw at Etoile Sahel.
Gomaa has been one of the defensive pillars for club and country over the past decade.
The rock-solid center-half set several records for Ahli, having won an amazing 26 trophies with the Reds including six Champions League titles.
He won over 110 caps for Egypt, helping the Pharaohs clinch three Africa Cup of Nations titles.
