Former Egypt striker Mido has been appointed Zamalek manager in place of Helmi Toulan, the Cairo club said.

Toulan, who has been in charge since last July, was sacked on Tuesday following a 1-1 home draw with Harras Hodoud in the league.

The Zamalek board has surprisingly decided to appoint Mido, who will become the youngest-ever manager in Egyptian football history at 30.

The former Zamalek youngster has only retired from football last summer following an unsuccessful spell with Barnslay in England.

Coach Toulan, who guided Zamalek to the cup title last year, leaves the team in fourth place after four games.

Mido's first assignment will be against win-less Minya by the end of the month.

Zamalek said that the ex-Tottenham striker will be assisted by Abdul-Rahim Mohamed and Tarek Al-Sayed.
