Zamalek claimed a 1-0 victory over Gaish in the Egyptian Premier League, thanks to a second-half freekick by Mohamed Abdul-Shafi.

It was a fortunate strike from the Egypt full-back, whose attempted cross was bizzarrely dealt with by keeper Mohamed Bassam.

The victory moved the Whites to third place behnind leaders Ismaili, who dropped their first points of the season.

The Dervishes were held to a goalless draw by Police Union in Ismailia even so they remain in charge of Group B.

Elsewhere, newly-promoted Minya continued to stumble after scoring a second own-goal in a row to lose 1-0 to Canal at home.

In Alexandria, Harras Hodoud needed a second-half penalty by Ahmed Salem to reply to another from Bani Suef Telephones' Osama Al-Sayed.
