Hossam Hassan scored a goal and dished out an assist to lead Masri to a 3-1 victory over Zamalek in the Egyptian League on Thursday.

Mustafa Gaafar put Zamalek ahead early in the first half before Masri stormed back to equalize through Hassan's header nine minutes before the break.

Two second-half strikers from Karim Zekri and Ashour Al-Adham secured the three points for the basement side and handed Zamalek their second defeat of the season.

The ill-tempered match witnessed three red cards with Zamalek's Awuley Quaye "Junior, Ahmed Bakri and Masri's Amr Al-Safti receiving their marching orders.

The result put Zamalek in the third place on 26 points while Masri moved up to the 11th spot with 13 points.

Gaafar stunned the home crowd after only 10 minutes when he converted Tarek Al-Sayed's cross past Masri's Nigerian goalkeeper Emanuel.

Hassan, aiming for a recall to Egypt's squad in the African Cup of Nations, put on an outstanding show and sparked his team into life before going into the locker.

The veteran striker ghosted in behind the Zamalek back four to connect with a loose ball and head the equalizer home.

In the 71st minute, Zekri capitalized on Zamalek keeper Mohamed Abdul-Monssif's mistake and put Masri ahead with a close range header.

The energetic 39-year-old Hassan ended his former side's hope for an equalizer in the injury time when he fed the unmarked Al-Adham who slammed a finish into the cross bar before the ball fell behind the goal line.
