The English Football Association (FA) is considering investigating the comments made by Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger made about refereeing after his team’s Premiership game against Chelsea.

Wenger questioned the impartiality of referee Rob Styles and one of his assistants in the 1-0 defeat to Chelsea on Sunday.

The Frenchman was furious after Robin van Persie's goal was ruled out in the first-half of the match.

"We scored a regular goal but the referee made a very bad decision,” Wenger was quoted as saying by British media. “I associate the referee and linesmen in the same team - the Chelsea team."

Television replays showed Van Persie received the ball in an onside position and the goal should have been counted.

"The first goal is very important and the referee made the wrong decision. For me, our goal was the perfect goal - and it would have changed the game,” he added.

The Arsenal boss will be asked by the FA to explain his comments before further inquiry of the matter.

Wenger also criticized Styles for being soft on Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien, who appeared to elbow Arsenal defender Lauren in the mouth in the first-half.

"Essien was a straight red in my opinion. It was just in front of the dugout and the referee was not brave enough to make the decision, but it was a straight red," said Wenger.

The FA may impose a fine on Wenger if his comments are deemed unfounded.
