Abou-Treika was cautioned in the 61st minute of Egypt's 3-1 win over Ivory Coast for his prolonged celebrations after scoring the second goal for the host nation.

"We filed an appeal to CAF on Sunday morning regarding the yellow card that Abou-Treika received in the Ivory Coast match," EFA vice president Ahmed Shobeir told Filgoal.com.

"We believe the player didn't deserve a yellow card for his goal celebration, which was completely legitimate," he said.

The yellow card is the second for Abou-Treika in the group stage of the African Cup of Nations, which means the Ahli player is suspended for Egypt’s quarter-final encounter on Friday.

"We know it's a long shot, but we had to file the appeal as not to lose the player's services in Friday’s match," added Shobeir.

Egypt finished the first round as Group A winners and will face the runners-up from Group B in the Cairo Stadium on Friday.
