Mubarak honored the players and the technical staff and decided to pay the national team a bonus of three million EGP.

"This victory proves that Egyptians can always achieve their targets with hard work and determination," Mubarak told the players in the presidency headquarters.

The president also said the victory was a morale-boost for the Egyptian people who were in grief after the ferry deadly accident.

Discussions took place between the players and the president over the Egyptian campaign towards the title.

Egypt were crowned African Champions on Friday after beating Ivory Coast 4-2 on penalties.
