The People Assembly honored the Egyptian national team members who won the African Cup of Nations in their parliamentary session on Wednesday.

Dr. Fathi Sorour, chairman of the PA, awarded coach Hassan Shehata and a number of the national team's players the Parliament's Silver Medal for their unprecedented achievement.

The Pharaohs were crowned African champions for a record-fifth time after beating Ivory Coast in the final earlier this month.

Players Hassan Mostafa, Wael Gomaa, Tarek Al-Sayed and Moetaz "Eno" were in attendance for the session while other national team members were not available due to their engagements with their clubs.

Sorour said that the national team played an important patriotic and political role in bringing Egyptians together and creating a sense of unity.

Egyptian Football Association (EFA) president Samir Zaher and vice-president Ahmed Shobeir were also granted the Parliament's Silver Medal by Sorour.
