Ahli crush Koroum to go six clear

International midfielder Mohamed Abou-Treaka scored two goals and Egypt teammate Mohamed Abdul-Wahab added another as Ahli crushed Koroum 3-0 in their local league match on Saturday.

The victory tightened Ahli's grip on the league summit with 33 points to extend their winning run to 11 consecutive games, and lead second-place Enppi with six points.

Koroum remained in the basement of the table with only 11 points from the same number of matches.

Abdul-Wahab opened the score line in the seventh minute when he unleashed a long-range drive into the bottom left corner of the net.

Koroum bounced back quickly and dominated the rhythm, creating three scoring chances but all of them were denied by Essam Al-Hadari, the best goalkeeper in the last African Cup of Nations.

Abou-Treaka, a key figure in Egypt's campaign towards their fifth African title, doubled the lead in the 78th minute as he poked into an empty net on the rebound after is initial effort was blocked by the goalkeeper.

The instrumental playmaker put the icing on the cake four minutes deep into the injury time when he steered a left-footed first-timer into the far angle of the net.

In other matches, Suez Cement beat Arab Contractors 2-0, Armed Forces edged Ismaili 1-0, Aluminum held Ghazl Mahalla to a goalless draw.

Zamalek will travel to Alexandria on Sunday to play Ittihad in the Egyptian League.
