Alberto Gilardino scored the winner in the 23rd minute through a debatable spot-kick after Filippo Inzaghi fell down in the box.

The victory raised Milan's point tally to 57, ten adrift of defending champions and leaders Juventus and leading city rivals Inter, who come third, with two points.

Inzaghi squandered a great chance to stretch the lead after the break when he was unmarked by Kaka on the edge of the area but the Italian international sent a poor finish outside.
