Barcelona boss Frank Rijkaard has emphasized the importance of his side's 5-1 win over Real Betis in the Primera Liga on Saturday.

"The victory has been very important to us. I'm pleased with our outcome," Spanish paper Mundo Deportivo newspaper quoted Rijkaard as saying on Sunday.

The Dutch boss was pleased with Barca's performance throughout the game despite facing difficulties from stubborn opponents Real Betis.

"We have made the difference by scoring, but Betis were very organized and prepared to attack and threaten our goal," he said.

Brazilian superstar Ronaldinho scored a goal and swindled hapless Betis defender Melli into two own-goals.

Swede international Henrik Larsson and Argentine youngster Lionel Messi added a goal each for Barcelona while Spain’s Joaquin scored the visitors’ consolation.

The result means Barcelona are still in charge of the Liga table with 55 points, seven clear of Real Madrid.

Rijkaard paid tribute to Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes, who kept Real Betis at bay.

"Betis created chances but we had the great Victor Valdes, I do not believe in luck we had to suffer to win," he said.
