Chelsea back on winning track with 2-0 victory over Portsmouth

Chelsea jumped back on the winning track with a new 2-0 victory over Portsmouth on Saturday after losing their last two matches against Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League and Middlesbrough in the Premiership match that took place at Stamford Bridge.

Frank Lampard and Arjen Robben scored a goal each, in the 65th and 78th minute respectively, to hand Chelsea the victory to regain confidence after the last two defeats.

Chelsea maintained their position as leaders in the league standings with a tally of 69th minute, while Portsmouth remain with 18 points to edge closer to the relegation zone.

Lampard opened the score for Chelsea in the 65th minute after connecting a Eidur Gudjohnsen pass and firing the ball straight into the Pompey net from the edge of the area.

Gudjohnsen dished out another assist for Robben who netted the ball 12 minutes from full-time, to seal Chelsea’s victory.

Elsewhere, Arsenal slumped to another defeat after suffering a 1-0 loss to Blackburn Rovers, who leapfrogged them into fifth place in the league table.

Craig Bellamy grabbed the winner in the 18th minute when he rounded Philippe Senderos and crossed for Morten Gamst Pedersen to fire home from close range.

Later, Newcastle grabbed three points after a 2-0 victory over Everton in the match that took place at St. James’ Park.

Peruvian striker Nolberto Solano netted in a second-half brace to seal the match in his side’s favour,

In other matches, Birmingham defeated Sunderland 1-0 and Charlton held Aston Villa to a goalless draw.
