Milan striker Andriy Shevchenko almost put his side ahead in the 21st minute after he met Serginho's low cross with a close-range shot that deflected off teammate Filippo Inzaghi's body.

Inzaghi squandered a great chance when Kaka moved down the left before sending a low cross which went past keeper Gianluigi Buffon but the Italian marksman failed to maintain his balance with the goal at his mercy and his shot went wide.
