Djibril Cisse

Tottenham Hotspurs, whom Egyptian striker Ahmed Hossam 'Mido' plays for, rejected reports linking them with Liverpool's French striker Djibril Cisse.

"We have never made an approach for Cisse and have not had any interest in the player," a Tottenham spokesman told the Daily Mail.

The Spurs statement comes in reply to claims by agent Ranko Stoijic that Tottenham target Cisse and are ready to land him in the off-season.

"On January 31 at 3 pm they contacted us. We didn't want it, a few hours before the end of the winter transfer window," Stoijic was quoted as saying by Sky Sports network.

"But the contacts should be renewed in the summer, and Djibril is really attracted because Tottenham is an improving club, which can offer him more playing time."

Tottenham are believed to be looking for a prolific striker to team up with Mido, Irish international Robbie Keane and England's Jermaine Defoe.

Mido and Keane scored 11 goals each this season and Defoe added eight, combining with others to make Tottenham the fifth best scoring team in the Premiership this season.

But Dutch manager Martin Jol is searching for a fourth striker to cover the absence of Frederick Kanoute who left to Sevilla early in the season.

Italian international Christian Vieri was linked with a move to the London club in the transfer window but he opted to join Monaco instead.

DR. Congo captain and Portsmouth striker Lomana LuaLua told FilGoal.com in February that he was in talks with the Spurs but no deal has been reached by then.

Tottenham are fourth in the Premiership table on 52 points and battling with fifth-placed Arsenal, who are two points behind, for the last Champion League berth.
