Egypt won the rights to host the 2007 Pan-Arab Games for the first time in 41 years after fierce competition with Lebanon.

Syria pulled out of the competition early before Egypt received 12 votes, while Lebanon received only 10 votes during the Arab youth ministers meeting that took place in the Arab League headquarters in Cairo.

Egyptian Council for Sports president Safi El-Din Kharboush represented Egypt in the meeting that was also attended by Minister for Relations with the Parliament Moufid Shehab.

Algeria hosted the 2004 Pan-Arab Games, while Egypt last hosted the event in 1965.
