Middlesbrough back on track in UEFA Cup

Middlesbrough produced a remarkable comeback after they came from a goal behind to beat Swiss giants Basel 4-1 at home and reach the UEFA Cup semi-finals with a 4-1 aggregate score.

Adelino Eduardo Da Silva stunned the home crowd in the 23rd minute before Australian striker Mark Viduka scored two goals for Middlesbrough in the 33rd and 57th minute.

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink added the third in the 79th minute and Massimo Maccarone bagged the decisive goal in the last minute that took Boro through.

Germany's Schalke also booked their place in UEFA Cup semi-finals after they held Levski Sofia to a 1-1 home draw to qualify with a 4-2 aggregate score.

Brazilian midfielder Lincoln's strike two minutes before the hour mark cancelled out Emil Angelov's opener in the 24th minute.

The third team to qualify to the semis were Spanish side Sevilla as a 1-1 draw with Zenit St Petersburg sent them through.

Sevilla progressed with a 5-2 aggregate victory as the first-leg ended 4-1 for Sevilla in their Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan venue.

Young-Min Hyun put Zenit ahead in the 50th minute before Kepa Blanco leveled the score in the 66th minute.

Romania's Steaua Bucharest completed the last four as they tied counterparts and arch-rivals Rapid Bucharest 0-0 to qualify with the away goal rule.

In the semi-finals, Sevilla will face Schalke and Steaua meet Middlesbrough.
