"We need to decide but he knows our idea and is continuing to work as hard as he can on his fitness. We know he is a very good finisher and a good player," he added.

The Liverpool icon re-joined the Merseysiders in January from Manchester City on a six-month deal.

Since his arrival, he netted just two goals in the Premiership as his appearances were limited to just five times but he made good progress with his fitness.
