Mido celebrates with team mates

Tottenham Hotspurs, whom Egyptian striker Ahmed Hossam 'Mido' plays for, edged Manchester City 2-1 at White Hart Lane on Saturday to continue their race for a UEFA Champions League spot next season.

Canadian defender Paul Stalteri and English midfielder Michael Carrick scored for the Spurs while Greek striker Georgios Samaras notched the consolation goal for City.

The victory kept Martin Jol's side in fourth spot that qualifies to the Champions League on 58 points, five ahead of London rivals Arsenal who still have two matches in hand including a big away clash against Manchester United on Sunday.

The home side grabbed the lead one minute before the break when Mido fed his striking partner Robbie Keane to fire a powerful bullet at City keeper David James who couldn't hold on to the ball only for Stalteri to drill home.

Carrick's volley in the 49th minute doubled Tottenham's lead before Samaras pulled one back three minutes later.
