"Wayne is a world-class player and we will give him every chance to play in the World Cup; with such a huge talent you have to do that," Eriksson told the British media on Sunday.
"England is one of four or five teams who can win the World Cup and this will not change that," he added.
Rooney fractured his right foot during Manchester’s Premiership match against Chelsea on Saturday and will be sidelined for around six week, which means that he will only be able to participate with England in their World Cup campaign if they qualify to the round of 16.
Eriksson also revealed that he received very encouraging news about Newcastle United star Michael Owen’s recovery from an injury.
"I have spoken to both Wayne and Michael today and the news I have received from the doctor about Michael is very encouraging. As with Wayne, we will know more in the next few days," Eriksson said.
England will kick-off their World Cup campaign with their opener against Paraguay on June 10th, and will next play on July 24th if they qualify to the last 16.
