Ecuador coach Luis Fernando Suarez said his side is aiming to go as far as they can in the World Cup after they advanced to the second round following a 3-0 win over Costa Rica on Thursday.

"Our idea is to finish as the best team in the first round and then do the same in the second round and continue to improve as much as possible," BBC Sport quoted Suarez as saying after the match.

Ecuador secured their place in the second round of the 2006 World Cup for the first time in history after they crushed Costa Rica 3-0.

Carlos Tenorio broke the deadlock early in the first half before Agustin Delgado added the second shortly after re-start.

Substitute Ivan Kaviedes sealed the win in stoppage time to guide his side to a memorable achievement.

Ecuador need a draw against hosts Germany in the next match to finish on top of Group A with goal difference.

"They (players) want to play a very good match against Germany. It will be historic," he said.

On the other hand, Costa Rica boss Alexandre Guimaraes rued his side's missed chances throughout the game.

"When you miss chances in front of goal you will get punished by these teams," he said. "We were punished by Germany in our first match and now by Ecuador."

"The game is like that when you miss chances, the other side have no mercy. That has been the story for us in these two games," Guimaraes added.
