"Clearly the team had some problems with their finishing, but you have to bear in mind that before the tournament started, people back in Trinidad and Tobago were expecting us to lose 6-0 or 8-0 against Sweden and England," the Dutchman said.

"For that reason, I'm disappointed to be out of the competition so soon, but I'm very satisfied with the effort my players put in."

Trinidad and Tobago dominated much of the final Group B game on Tuesday, but fell behind in the 25th minute when defender Brent Sancho headed in his own goal.

A second goal was netted by Paraguay's Nelson Cuevas ending the game at 2-0.

Regardless of the loss, the Caribbean team left Germany with their heads held high.

Earlier in the tournament the surprise 0-0 draw with Sweden caused celebration amongst the team and won the hearts of fans.

"I can't blame them, because they played with pride and passion," he added.

The veteran coach said that his team benefited a lot from participating in their first ever finals.

"I think we're leaving with our heads held high. This was the first time that the team has played in a World Cup, and we've learned some great lessons."

"The next time, they should have more confidence. This experience will help to develop football in Trinidad and Tobago," he said.

While neither Trinidad and Tobago nor Paraguay will continue on to the round of 16, Paraguay's coach Anibal Ruiz was pleased to see his team leave the tournament on a high note.

"This win against Trinidad and Tobago means that we can leave the tournament in the right way," he said.

Ruiz said the team was still stinging from their previous 88th minute defeat at the hands of Sweden.

"We had asked the players to try and lift their spirits after the Sweden defeat. We knew that it wasn't easy, because that was a harsh blow, but it was important to get up for this game and play for pride and honor," the Uruguayan boss said.

"The boys showed that they are a classy team."
