"I knew pretty much that this would be the last World Cup for me," Reyna was quoted as saying after his side's 2-0 defeat against Ghana on Thursday.

The 33-year-old midfielder, who plays for Premiership side Manchester City, failed to lead his side to the second round of the tournament after they lost twice and managed to tie Italy.

Reyna said he considers retiring because it is almost impossible to play in the World Cup again.

"For me, the right time to retire is now. The next World Cup is far away. I just wanted to play this as the last World Cup," he said.
