The 21-year-old stopper scored the opener in Switzerland's 2-0 victory over South Korea but he bled from his head after colliding with a Korean challenger and needed stitches during the break.

Senderos then was forced to leave the pitch after a painful fall that left him with a dislocated shoulder.

Switzerland's team doctor Rudolf Roeder said that the Arsenal player has also suffered ligament damage.

"He will be out for a minimum of two weeks," Roeder said. "There is a 50 percent chance he will require an operation but the most important thing is rest for now."

Switzerland will face Ukraine in the World Cup's second round on Monday and Johan Djourou is most likely to replace Senderos.
