Werder Bremen kicked-off the new season in style as they clinched the German League Cup title after beating Bayern Munich 2-0 in Leipzig on Saturday.

Ivan Klasnic put Bremen ahead in the 20th minute with a powerful shot from the edge of the area after controlling a neat pass from Miroslav Klose.

The Croatian striker sealed the victory six minutes after the hour mark when he converted a free-kick home, leaving Bayern keeper Oliver Kahn motionless.

Egyptian striker Mohamed Zidan did not take part in the game as he was on the substitute's bench.

This is Bremen's first League Cup title in three attempts. They lost twice against Bayern in 1999 and 2004.
