Mourinho gets easily provoked by the media

Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho had no one to blame other than his players after the shocking 2-1 defeat away to Middlesbrough in the Premiership on Wednesday.

"Middlesbrough deserved to win," Mourinho was quoted as saying by Chelsea's official website after the game.

"From me no complaints about the opponents, about fair play, about the referee, no mistakes, no stupid penalties.

"We cannot blame bad luck, we have to blame our own performance," the Portuguese manager added.

Late goals from Emanuel Pogatetz and Mark Viduka turned the table on the defending champions who seemed content with an early goal from Andriy Shevchenko.

"It was not the sort of attitude that I expected from a Chelsea side that have won the Premiership in the last two seasons," he told BBC Radio Five Live.

"Matches are not just about class and quality - they're about attitude.

"I've managed for six or seven years. That was not a Jose Mourinho team," the former Porto manager added.

Gareth Southgate, on the other hand, was ecstatic to grab his first win as Middlesbrough's manager.

"It was a fantastic response to come from a goal down against a side of that quality, the lads showed terrific character," the former England international said.

Southgate had lost his first game as a manager when Boro squandered a 2-0 lead to lose 3-2 to Reading in their first Premiership game last weekend.
