Govou made headlines this week when he scored twice in France's 3-1 victory over World Champions Italy in Euro 2008 qualifiers.

"This season we play against Real and Djila (Diarra)," he said in an interview with Lyon's official website.

"Playing against him will be a real laugh. I'd love to come face to face with him, but I won't lose my head to do it."

Diarra and Govou played key roles in helping Lyon win their fifth successive French League title and reaching the Champions League last eight before the Malian international made a switch to the Santiago Bernabeu this summer.

"Last season, he obviously had a great campaign with us, but we've recruited well over the summer and we can replace him with players that have other qualities," Govou said.

Lyon and Real Madrid clashed in the same phase last season with the 27-year-old missing the memorable 3-0 victory at home.

But with his classy display against Italy, he wishes to be part of the action this year.

"Last season I was very disappointed not to have played against Real Madrid. The Champions League games are always big games with a special flavor," he said.
