Konyaspor defender Abdul-Zaher Al-Saqqa denied allegations that he tried to assault Sivasspor Israeli striker Pini Balili during their Turkish League clash last Sunday.

"What happened throughout the match is a normal contact between any defender and striker, I didn’t try to assault him as he alleged," Al-Saqqa told FilGoal.com on Thursday.

"I'm Konyaspor's captain and I told my coach before the match I won't make any action which may harm the team, I have to be an ideal for the players."

Turkish media quoted Balili as saying that Al-Saqqa tried several times to attack him during Konyaspor's 2-0 victory over Sivasspor, claiming that the Egyptian international's actions were due to the Israeli war on Lebanon.

Al-Saqqa rebuffed Balili's claims as he stated that he was not booked in the game, even though the referee handed players from both sides four red cards and six cautions.

"There were 12 cameras broadcasting the match and none of them showed any misconduct by me," he concluded.
