Barcelona star striker Samuel Eto'o will be sidelined with an injury for up to three months, medical tests have confirmed.

The 25-year-old striker injured his knee during Barcelona's 1-1 UEFA Champions League draw with Werder Bremen on Wednesday night.

"The club's medical services carried out a scan on Eto'o's knee this morning and confirm that he has torn the meniscus in his right knee," a statement on the Barcelona official web site said.

Eto'o was top scorer last season in the Primera Liga with 26 goals, and he had been responsible for six of Barcelona's Champions League goals, but now the team will have to do without his goals.

The Cameroonian was substituted in the 65th minute after collapsing and was stretchered off the pitch.

Eto'o will most likely miss the remainder of Champions League group stage as well as many of league games.

The Spanish giants will likely rely on either Iceland striker Eidur Gudjohnsen or Argentina's Javier Saviola to take his place on the pitch.
