Australia beat Bahrain, Syria hold South Korea

Australia finished their 2007 Asian Cup qualifying campaign by beating Bahrain 2-0 in Sydney on Wednesday.

First half goals from John Aloisi and Marco Bresciano gave the Socceroos victory and the summit in Group D.

Bahrain coach Senad Kreso rested his key players for the crucial qualifier against Kuwait next month.

Meanwhile, Syria held South Korea to a 1-1 draw in their Group B match in Seoul.

Cho Jae-jin headed the Koreans in front as early as the 8th minute while Maher Al Saied equalized for the guests.

In the other Group B match, former Asian Player of the Year Ali Karimi struck home twice to give Iran a 2-0 victory over minnows Chinese Taipei.

Elsewhere, Uzbekistan produced a 4-0 drubbing of Bangladesh in Group F.
