The 22-year-old striker scored only once since arriving at St. James Park in the summer from Inter Milan after the Serie A side landed Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Hernan Crespo.

"He should have moved to a winning team, not a struggling side like Newcastle," Akanni told The Sun on Wednesday.

"If something is not done urgently, his career may suffer," he added hinting at Newcastle's embarrassing position in the Premiership.

The Magpies are third from bottom, collecting just nine points from 12 games.
