Zamalek edged past Ittihad

Zamalek coach Manuel Cajuda said that his team's 2-1 win over Ittihad Alexandria in the local league on Sunday was the fruit of his strict disciplinary policy.

Cajuda has had several bust-ups with several key players over the past few weeks, but the Portuguese manager insisted that his approach was keeping Zamalek on the right path.

"This victory was important because it really upholds the moral code that I'm trying to implement within Zamalek," Cajuda said in a post-game press conference.

"I haven't spoken about the situation with Hazem Emam or Ibrahim Saied," he said. "Yet, all the papers are attacking me, even the club's own paper."

Zamalek's victory was courtesy of an Amr Zaki brace, and Cajuda made sure he outlined the significance of the player, who has been tipped to move to the Premiership in January.

"When you have a player like him (Zaki), of course you don't want him to leave," said Cajuda.

"But it's not my decision to keep him. Zamalek's board signed him and have the right to sell him if they believe it's for the better."

Meanwhile, Ittihad's coach, Slobodan Pavkovic, has blamed injuries for his team's defeat against Zamalek.

"We had four of our defenders injured before the game, which really made things tough for us," said Pavkovic.

The Serbian manager was forced to field midfielder Khamis Gaafar in the backline due to the injury of Omar Khattab, Anwar Shaloufa, Youssef Abdul-Rahim and Rami Saied.
