Real Madrid manager Fabio Capello said that a couple of mistakes in the two-legged tie were to blame for his side's elimination from the UEFA Champions League at the hands of Bayern Munich.

The Spanish giants were on course for a comfortable win in the first-leg at home as they were leading 3-1 but Mark van Bommel scored late to help Bayern narrow the gap.

In the second-leg, Roy Makaay notched home after just 10 seconds following a mistake from Roberto Carlos as the Bavarian giants went on to claim a 4-4 aggregate draw and secure their place in the competition's quarter-finals on the away goals rule.

"I think we gave away two gifts of goals during this tie and they have proved decisive: Van Bommel's second at the Bernabéu and Makaay's first today," Capello was quoted as saying by the club's official website.

"Conceding a goal in this manner is beyond belief; even more so if we consider that the ball was ours from the start."

The Italian tactician was also left ruing missed chances and some mistakes from Slovakian referee Michel Lubos.

"We had many opportunities, but we failed to score. We should have scored more given the many chances we had."

"There was an offside called on (Miguel) Torres which was completely unfair and the referee disallowed one of our goals."

Capello stated that Real have to concentrate on the Primera Liga campaign as it is the last piece of silverware available for Los Meringues.

"There is only the league now, nothing more. It is always our aim to try to win the league title," the former Juventus boss concluded.
