Midfielder Jose Luis Marti put the Spanish side ahead from the penalty spot after eight minutes before Tomas Huebschman equalized for the visitors ten minutes later.

Brazilian midfielder Matuzalem converted home a penalty on the hour mark to grab the lead for Shakhtar but substitute Enzo Maresca saved Sevilla's chances with another spot kick two minutes from time.

Elsewhere, Robbie Keane scored in the dying seconds to lead Tottenham Hotspur to a 2-1 away victory over Portuguese side Braga.

Keane fired Spurs in front in the 57th minute and Steed Malbranque doubled the lead in the 72nd minute.

Braga pulled one back four minutes later through Soares Paulo Jorge before Ze Carlos leveled the score in the 81st minute.

Former Inter Milan striker Keane secured the win two minutes into stoppage time.

Egypt midfielder Hossam Ghaly was kept on the substitutes bench while compatriot Ahmed Hossam 'Mido' was not included in Martin Jol's squad for the game.
