Egypt have been officially chosen to host the 2009 U-20 World Cup, the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) announced on Friday.
"The EFA has received the confirmation from FIFA, Egypt will host the 2009 Youth World Championship," EFA vice-president Ahmed Shobeir told FilGoal.com.
Shobeir hailed the role played by Egyptian Council of Sport's president Hassan Saqr, whose active efforts and communications with CAF and FIFA officials helped Egypt win the bid.
The competition will take place in June and July, 2009.
Six stadiums will be used in four host cities: Cairo (Cairo International Stadium, Military Academy), Alexandria (Borg Al-Arab, Harras Al-Hodoud), Port Said (Masri) and Ismailia (Ismaili).
Egypt previously hosted the U-17 World Cup in 1997 while Nigeria were the last African country to host the U-20 tournament in 1999.
